Tidy Your Space

I decided to tidy my embroidery threads. For years they lived in an old plastic ziplock bag all jumbled up. Then I thought I was the Queen of Tidy when I moved them to a spare flip-top box.

Still in a jumble, you will note. But recently, after watching some very soothing embroidery videos online where part of the joy was watching the artist choose her colours from a well-organised storage cabinet with perfectly-sized drawers, just right for embroidery spools, and everything in a pleasing graded-colour rainbow, I finally cracked and bought my own storage box and spent a happy few hours watching a boxset and transferring all my floss to little cardboard spools and organising them by colour … just like the lady in the video! 😊
I cannot emphasis enough the importance of tidiness in your workspace. And it comes from bitter experience.
I am a natural clutter bucket. When I was young, my room was known by my family as ‘the swamp’. Tidiness does not come naturally to me, and the result is that I spend a lot of my time navigating piles and clearing a space to work. Let me tell you, the ‘joy’ of finding ‘forgotten’ lost things is nothing compared to that of looking at an already-clear workspace.
So, make life easy for your self and keep your workspace clear. Take it from one who knows.
